Monsoon to hit Kerala by end May, early June

Chennai recorded a moderate temperature of 38.2 degree C and 36.6 degree C.

Chennai: Monsoon is expected to hit Kerala by end May or early June, with various forecasting agencies predicting normal or above normal rainfall this year, science and technology minister Harsh Vardhan said Wednesday. “During the current year (2016), normal or above normal rainfall has been predicted by many forecasting agencies, including India Meteorological Department. No forecast assessment for pre-monsoon season is issued by any agencies,” he said in Lok Sabha during Question Hour

Meanwhile, Chennai recorded a moderate temperature of 38.2 degree C and 36.6 degree C at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam respectively on Wednesday.

Drought hit regions like Rajapalayam and Srivilliputtur in Virudhu Nagar district recorded 18 mm rainfall (as of 7pm on Wednesday) while places like Pechiparai and Thiruvattur in Kanyakumari district reported 10-15mm of rainfall.
