Dy CM N Chinarajappa: Andhra Pradesh firm on giving cotton fair deal

The Deputy Chief Min-ister said that the government was taking all necessary measures to tackle severe drought conditions in the state.

Anantapur: Deputy Chief Minister N. Chinarajappa said that the state government was firm on delivering justice to the Kapus soon after receiving the report by the Justice Manjunatha Commission. He also assured that a sum of Rs 1,000 crore would be allocated from the coming year onwards towards Kapu welfare.

The shortage of funds and delay resulted in less funds for the corporation, he observed, appealing to the Kapus to stay calm and not be drawn into arguments by provocative elements makign remarks about the reservation process of Kapus as BCs.

Mr Chinarajappa, who was making a whirlwind tour of the district on Wednesday, inaugurated a model school at Kalyanadurgam and also laid a foundation stone for Balija Bhavan at Kurnduri Road in Kalyanadurgam.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the government was taking all necessary measures to tackle severe drought conditions in the state. About 17,000 chalivendrams were launched to provide butter milk and water free of cost. Drinking water would be supplied in tankers for habitations facing deep depletion of ground water in the state, he said.

He also added that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was very particular about the development of Anantapur district and keen for it to overcome drought conditions, with Rs 10 crore released for the alleviation of drinking water problems. He noted that 33 persons had died of sunstroke in the district.

IT minister Palle Raghunath Reddy gave an assurance that the government would fund the return of the Gulf victims. He said that many had fallen prey to fake Gulf agents and suffering harassment of various kinds. “Last year, about 800 victims returned with the help of government assistance,” the minister recalled. Chief whip Kaluva Sreenivasulu, MLAs Prabhakar Chowdary and
U.Hanumantharaya Chowdary were present.
