Rahul Gandhi comes to aid of scribes

Three journalists suffered minor injuries after a portion of the barrier atop the media vehicle broke off as the roadshow progressed.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress president Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached out to help a group of journalists who were injured while covering his roadshow in Kalpetta on Thursday.

Three journalists suffered minor injuries after a portion of the barrier atop the media vehicle broke off as the roadshow progressed.

K. P. Anil Kumar, the media coordinator of Rahul Gandhi campaign in Wayanad, who was accompanying them, said it broke away with a loud bang and journalists fell off the truck.

“When leaders were confused, Rahul and Priyanka reacted spontaneously and jumped out to help them. I saw Priyanka giving first-aid to one of the journalists,” he said.

"She didn't have any inhibition in massaging his chest or in removing the journalist’s shoes who had fainted. She herself gave glucose from the emergency vehicle as Rahul helped them to the ambulance."

After leaving Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “I am overwhelmed by the love and affection of the people of Wayanad in Kerala.”

Cong prez will campaign for left in TN: CPI

CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said the campaign being unleashed by the Congress against the LDF was not going to help the secular forces.

At a meet the press programme organised by Kesari Memorial Trust here, he said Mr Gandhi was campaigning for the CPI and the CPM in Tamil Nadu. Therefore his criticism and allegations against the Left were meaningless.

Mr Gandhi may have decided to contest from Kerala but that does not mean the BJP would no longer be the enemy No 1 of the LDF. “But what political message Rahul wants to give to the country by fighting in a constituency where the NDA led BJP candidate might even lose security deposit,” he asked.

He disapproved of the ‘Pappu’ slur made against Mr Gandhi in CPM mouthpiece Deshabhimani. The CPI leader felt that such remarks against political opponent should be avoided and the focus should be on people’s issues.
