President Ram Nath Kovind sends Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh\'s case to MHA

Even Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot had raised objections to the comment describing them as “unfortunate.’’

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind has sent a report regarding Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh to the home ministry after the Election Commission (EC) wrote to the President on a possible for violation of model code of conduct by Mr Singh.

Mr Singh had apparently said that “since we are BJP workers we would want BJP to win the Lok Sabha election and ensure that Modiji once again becomes Prime Minister on May 23.’’

Sources said the poll panel wrote to the President on April 1 as it was of the opinion that Mr Singh’s remarks on re-election of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister were in violation of the model code of conduct. In its communication, the EC had stated that the remarks made by the governor were in “violation of the neutral post he holds.’’

Even Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot had raised objections to the comment describing them as “unfortunate.’’

Mr Gehlot had also said that the post of a state governor should be non-partisan and that it does not suit the dignity of his post.

Home ministry sources said the ministry was yet to examine the communication received from the President.
