Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan trashes report on floods, says it is aimed at LS polls

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday rejected the amicus curiae report on floods saying it was being misused by certain sections against the government on the eve of Lok Sabha polls.

The chief minister said there was an attempt to deride the humongous rescue operations carried out during floods which had been applauded globally. Certain sections are making attempts to use it against the LDF government. The allegations about lapses during the floods including unscientific dam management had been raised earlier as well. However, the government had had explained its position in various fora including the Assembly and press conferences.

He said the attempts being made to deride the highly applauded rescue and relief operations, required to be countered effectively by people. The state had witnessed the worst floods of this century. People cutting across religion, caste, creed and all other differences rose up to the occasion and carried out massive rescue and relief operations. The united efforts of the Malayalis received applause from various international agencies including the United Nations.

The Chief Minister said the government was now fully engaged in implementing rehabilitation programmes. It was in the midst of these works that a writ petition was filed in the High Court and on the basis of which the amicus curiae was appointed. The amicus curiae report is not final.

He said the amicus curiae appointed on the entry of young women in Sabarimala temple had given diverse report. But the Supreme Court verdict was totally different.

The Chief Minister said since the print and electronic media gave wide coverage when amicus curiae submitted the report in court.
