Summer camps start rolling across Kerala

Some of them have already started while some others are set to start anytime now.

KOCHI/KOZHIKODE: With the summer vacation starting, many organizations and clubs and others have come out with camps for the students to engage them in activities in a constructive way. Some of them have already started while some others are set to start anytime now.

Planetarium, Kozhikode
The Regional Science Centre and Planetarium in Kozhikode will host summer camp for students from April 9 to May 7. Mazhavillu, a fun science and vijnana kouthukam programme, will be held for lower primary and upper primary students and other programmes will be held for high school students. The center will mainly focus to conduct science related fun activities for the students with an aim to nurture the interest in science among them, said the officials. Badminton training
The District Badminton Association in Kozhikode will host summer camp from April 5 at VK Krishna Menon Stadium. The summer camp will be inaugurated by KJ Mathai, president District Sports Council. For details: 8606012312. Another sports camp is organized by Sussex Cricket Academy, Kozhikode, for both girls and boys. The cricket camp will be held at Malabar Christian College ground. Kerala cricketer Rohan S Kunnummal, fitness trainers, Ranji players, university players will be leading the sessions. For details -9946705364.

Students Police
The annual camp of Students Police Cadets of Kozhikode district will kick start from Thursday. The five day camp named ‘Vibrant’ will be held at Karanthur Markaz Senior Secondary School. A total of 1012 students from 23 schools of classes 8 and 9 will be participating in the camp that will give students an awareness about traffic regulations and also about the functioning of two central government institutions in the district namely Indian Institute of Management- Kozhikode and Centre for Water Resources, Development and Management. In addition to these, classes on various subjects and cultural activities will also be organised.

C-SiS, Cusat
The C-SiS functioning at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kochi, is offering summer vacation classes aimed at developing scientific temper in students. C-sis lab is equipped with minute models to sophisticated satellite launcher GSLV MK III.

A group of expert teachers are leading the programme which is based on “Learn while playing and play while learning”. A science park is also setup to teach students complex scientific principles in a simple manner by using working models. ‘Circus of Energy’, which explains different forms of energy, ‘Vertex model’, which scientifically explains the natural phenomenon of hurricane, the wind turbine which produces electricity from wind, solar power plant demonstration find a place in the science park.

Torso of famous scientists from all over the world and a brief description are also placed. Another attraction is laboratories in different disciplines of science where students could do experiments by themselves and see the results.

The biology lab gives opportunity to determine one’s own blood group and analysis of minute plant cells, Mathematics lab teaches mathematical principles in an interesting manner. Ekm Public Library
The Ernakulam Public Library is also organizing a summer camp with the aim of inculcating an interest in history. The camp will be held from April 30 to May 5. Eminent personalities will take classes and interact with the participants.
Those aged 14 to 18 can participate and the fee is Rs 500.

EMS Library, Kakkanad
The EMS Co-opearative Library at Kakkanad will conduct special courses for women and children on the occasion of summer from April 4. Introductory and advanced courses in drawing, painting, chess and robotics will be held as part of this.

Classes will also be held clay-modelling, hand embroidery and cross stitching. There will be two batches in April and May. For details: 9847423902
