Opposition for action on CPI wayanad secretary Vijayan Cherukara

The BJP believes that the party decision to remove him from party post was not enough.

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition parties mounted pressure on the government to register case against CPI Wayanad district secretary Vijayan Cherukara who had quit the post after being caught on camera in connection with a land deal.

The BJP believes that the party decision to remove him from party post was not enough. It demanded a detailed probe into the incident and registration of case against him for facilitating encroachment of government land.

Former KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran said the Wayanad land deal issue was grave and demanded strict action against those involved in it.Both Congress and BJP leaders alleged that there was an attempt to put the entire blame on officials and allow the partymen to get away with the scam with light disciplinary action.

The CPM district secretary slammed those behind the deal saying leaders involved directly or indirectly in the scam should quit public life.

Meanwhile, CPI leaders including revenue minister E. Chandrash-ekharan assured that there would be a free and fair probe into the matter. They slammed attempts to tarnish the party. The CPI district council had on Tuesday removed Cherukara from the post of secretary for two months. He was replaced by Ollur MLA K. Rajan.
