Madras High Court: Take measures for pilgrims convenience

The 1,001st birth anniversary of Sage Ramanuja is going to be celebrated between 12th and 22nd April, 2018.

Chennai: The Madras High Court directed the authorities to take measures for the convenience of pilgrims who congregate on the occasion of the 1,001st birth anniversary of Ramanuja at Sriperumbudur between April 12-22, 2018.

The First Bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice A.Selvam gave the directive while passing interim orders on a public interest litigation filed by International Sri Vaishnava Ramanuja Samrajaya Sabha.

The bench said, “The 1,001st birth anniversary of Sage Ramanuja is going to be celebrated between 12th and 22nd April, 2018. We are informed that thousands of pilgrims are expected to gather at Sriperumbudur during the celebrations.

The authorities are directed to take measures for the convenience of pilgrims who congregate on the occasion, including measures for crowd control, maintenance of law and order, erection of temporary sheds and toilets.” The authorities shall submit a status report by April 6 giving details of the measures that are being taken.

The judges directed that that matter be listed on April 6. In the meanwhile, the authorities were directed to initiate measures immediately for the smooth conduct of the celebrations, if the same have not already been initiated, the bench added.
