Let's use anything, even cricket, to get Cauvery'

Only about 50,000 cricket fans will have to do this sacrifice, but let's not forget that would benefit seven crore people.

Chennai: The Tamils are hardcore fans of cricket, particularly those in capital Chennai. And the IPL is happening on April 10. And the Tamils are also warring on the streets for Cauvery; so it's only to be expected that someone will come up with the brilliant idea that the agitation could be played in the Chepauk stadium for terrific impact.

Kollywood composer James Vasanthan has done just that in his twitter post late Tuesday night, calling upon the cricket fans to sacrifice their great love for the battle between the willow and the leather and let the huge stadium look barren on television screens across the world.

“Only about 50,000 cricket fans will have to do this sacrifice, but let's not forget that would benefit seven crore people”, he said. “It's enough if none goes to witness the IPL. The stands will be empty. This one act of sacrifice will draw the attention of entire India, of the Union Government, the judges, in fact the entire world, in just one single day. Let's not shrug this away as just a problem of the farmers; this concerns our daily bread”, said the popular music composer.

Several Tamil fringe parties have given call for IPL boycott and a few have even threatened violence. For instance, the controversial Velmurugan leading the 'Tamizhaga Val-urimai Katchi' has announced he would picket the stadium and “if necessary even storm the players' place to prevent them from coming out to play”.

The social media players too are having a great IPL outing and one of them has come out with a googly. “The police have banned gathering of people to break the Cauvery agitation, so why not we all buy tickets for the IPL and hold our protest once we get into the stadium. That way, we will get maximum mileage for our struggle, even internationally as all the TV cameras will be focused more on us and less on the game”. Needless to say this whatsup post went viral.
