University of Hyderabad students want smoking too in ban

Passive smoking is more problematic than a person consuming alcohol. Implement all the three strictly.

Hyderabad: After imposing restrictions on protests in the University of Hyderabad campus, UoH administration on Monday released a circular prohibiting the use of alcohol and narcotics on campus to ‘maintain discipline and decency’. The University administration released a circular against consumption of alcohol and narcotics, but students questioned why smoking was not on the list.

The circular released by the UoH administration say-s, “Consuming alcohol and narcotics in the University premises and public places is not permitted and is strictly prohibited. Security staff is authorised to check inflow of liquor, narcotics into the campus and take action against anybody found consuming or carrying prohibited substances on the campus and in its premises.” The circular was posted on the university’s Facebook page, where students appreciated the move and requested officials to include prohibition of smoking in the circular.

A student commented: “Appreciate the decision, but didn’t understand why smoking is excluded from this order. Smoking is a serious problem at all food centres, shopcoms etc. North shopcom and South shopcom look like smoking zones. Unable to have tea or food in those areas.”

Passive smoking is more problematic than a person consuming alcohol. Implement all the three strictly. Please don't nail trees for non-smoking boards.”
