Traffic cops will penalise based on evidence: Sood
Bengaluru: If you have violated a traffic rule and think you could get away by arguing with the cop, think twice. The Bengaluru Traffic Police department is preparing to follow 100 percent evidence-based law enforcement (EBLE) in the cases of violation, leaving no room for arguments.
In addition, EBLE would also be beneficial for vehicle users who often cry foul over the violations and allege excess fines by cops while booking the cases.
As of now, only 60 per cent of the violations cases are backed by evidence, said Praveen Sood, city Police Commissioner.
“We are working towards making Bengaluru Traffic Police people-friendly and the 100 per cent evidence-based law enforcement would be a prominent step towards achieving our goal,” he said. In three months from now all the traffic violations in the city will be booked with evidence and Bengaluru would be the first city in the country to have such a mechanism, Sood added.
After nearly nine years of bonding with classic BlackBerry devices to collect spot fines, the Bengaluru Traffic Police have finally replaced them with smart hand-held personal digital assistant (PDA) devices. They have dual rear cameras (Video and Still) and can read licences and RCs.
