SEC refusing to hold civic polls as aiadmk faces rout: MK Stalin

Welcoming the transfer of many officials, he said the EC should continue its stringent measures against misuse of official machinery.

Chennai: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Tuesday said the State Election Commission is refusing to conduct the local body elections since the AIADMK (Amma) led by V.K. Sasikala would face a total rout.

He also said the present state government could not solve the problems of farmers since both the factions of the ruling party were keen on retaining their posts and not concerned about the people.

Citing the court warning that the commission would have to face contempt proceedings, if it failed to complete the local body elections before May 14, Stalin said the DMK would wait and see what the court would do since the case had been adjourned for a week.

Welcoming the transfer of many officials, he said the EC should continue its stringent measures against misuse of official machinery.

BJP govt neglecting TN interests: Stalin
The DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Tuesday alleged that the BJP government is neglecting the interests of Tamil Nadu and refusing to turn its attention to the woes of farmers agitating in the capital for over 20 days.

Speaking to media in Coimbatore airport, he said “Despite suicides of nearly 250 farmers, the Modi government is not interested in solving serious problems faced by the agitating farmers”. He was on his way to Alampalayam near Pollachi to condole death of DMK leader and former union minister M. Kannappan’s wife.

Stalin, in a separate statement here, welcomed the Madras HC verdict ordering the waiver of cooperative loans of farmers. He urged the centre to waive the crop loans of farmers obtained from nationalised banks.
