Kamineni Srinivas asks firms to be part of VGH development
Visakhapatnam: Health minister Kamineni Srinivas called on both public and private companies to be a part of the development of Victoria General Hospital in the city under the corporate social responsibility funds. On Tuesday, Mr Srinivas held a review meeting with district officials alongside Vizag MP Kambhampati Haribabu and discussed the issues and development plans pertaining to various hospitals of the city, including King George Hospital, Government ENT Hospital, Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences, Government Hospital for Mental Care and Victoria General Hospital.
Mr Srinivas directed the officials to hasten the speciality block wor-ks at the King George Hospital. The minister asked the representativ-es to extend their assistance in developing the VGH. “We are planning to refurbish the VGH with about Rs 20 crore to make it a place for sophi-sticated maternal and child services,” said Mr Srinivas. Mr Haribabu said the companies had contributed about Rs 72 crore for the speciality block at the KGH under the CSR funds. “These companies have also contributed Rs 3.2 crore for furniture for 83 schools in the district,” said Mr Haribabu.
Earlier, Mr Srinivas inaugurated the dialysis unit at the Visakha Institute of Medial Sciences and said they will develop the VIMS into a super-speciality hospital. Principal secretary (health) Poonam Malakondaiah, district collector Pravin Kumar, director of medical education Dr N. Subbarao, DM&HO Dr J. Sarojini, KGH superintendent Dr G. Arjuna and others were present.
