Day 6: Truckers' strike hits construction business
Hyderabad: The truckers’ strike, on its sixth day on Tuesday, has adversely impacted on the building construction sector. As the truckers stopped transportation of construction materials like sand, cement, steel, bricks etc, builders and owners engaged in construction activity are facing a difficult time. President of Telangana lorry owners’ welfare association N. Bhaskar Reddy said the association would wait for two more days for a positive response from the governments and would go on an intensified strike from April 6.
“In support, the all India truckers’ associations has also given a strike call from April 8. We will halt all the essential services other than emergency ones from Thursday. There was no move from the governments’ end on Tuesday,” he said. Meanwhile, the Hyderabad joint transport commissioner J. Pandurang Naik held a review meeting on the ongoing truckers’ strike with all the zonal RTOs and directed them to make alternative arrangements with medium goods vehicles and even auto-trolleys.
He said the state government was very supportive of the truckers and it would solve the issues under its jurisdiction. “But, halting movement of essential commodities like milk, water, vegetables, pulses, onions and rice will have a grave impact on public life. RTOs should assist traders and farmers in this matter,” he said.
