Citizens for Bengaluru to hold model assembly
Bengaluru: After a successful Steel Flyover Beda campaign and other ongoing movements such as Chuku Buku Railu and Bus Bhagya, the Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) are now planning to hold model assembly consisting of its members and students.
To raise awareness and to encourage dialogue and discussion, CfB will organize 'Maadari Vidhan Sabha' or ' Bengaluru Model Assembly', which will be held on Saturday at RBANMS college.
Bengaluru has 28 MLAs and the "MLAs" in the mock assembly will pick on specific topics of urgent need, mainly mobility, transportation, traffic, in line with CfB's campaigns.
"In any city, the council meets to discuss the city’s burning issues in a non-partisan way. The BBMP does not have power over BMTC, BMRCL, etc. The revenue these transport corporations earn in Bengaluru, go to Karnataka Government and not BBMP," said Tara Krishnaswamy, a CfB volunteer.
"The lowest set of people who do have the power over major issues are Members of Legislative Assembly. Lake burning, traffic, mobility, molestation are overriding issues that MLAs can take charge of," she added.

Commenting on their demand to halve BMTC fares, Tara said, "This is how Uber, Ola work. They reduce fares, attract ridership and revenue offsets the low fares. Once the BMTC does this, they will instantly offset the subsidy. People will shift in large numbers from private to public transport."
