Students surpass teachers in test
Hyderabad: Students defeated teachers in the recruitment tests for engineering jobs in government service held over the last few months. The tests saw the strange situation of students and teachers competing for the same posts. This followed relaxation in the age limit to 44 years. Many teachers working at private engineering colleges took the exam, along with their students.
The tests were held to recruit nearly 1,400 assistant engineers at the four power utilities. TS Public Service recruited nearly 2,000 assistant engineers for the Water Board, Panchayat Raj, roads and buildings and rural water supply departments. OU Engineering College Principal S. Ramachandram said only a few of the large number of teachers who applied got selected.
“The teaching faculty concentrates on one or two subjects and score well in that. Students are better placed in that aspect,” he said. Mr Chenna Keshavulu Reddy, president of the Private Engineering College Lecturers’ Associa-tion, said four of their colleagues were selected.
