Salon firing: Probe team raids 2 houses

KOCHI: The Crime Branch special investigation team probing the beauty salon firing case raided the houses of two people suspected to be involved in the case.

A senior police official said that the raids were conducted on the houses of a doctor-couple at Kollam and Kasargod on the suspicion that they had helped the miscreants who opened fire at the 'Nail Artistry' salon owned by actress Leena Maria Paul at Panampilly Nagar here on December 15.

"The probe team received information that these people had arranged accommodation to the assailants and provided details about Leena Maria Paul. The raid was conducted in this regard. More details cannot be revealed as it may affect the investigation," an official said.

However, cops are yet to trace the couple who are absconding after the probe team grew suspicious over the statements taken from them during the investigation.

Meanwhile, a primary chargesheet with underworld don Ravi Pujari as the sole accused will be submitted before the Ernakulam Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Economic Offences) court on Tuesday. The chargesheet stated that Pujari had tried to extort money from Leena Maria Paul and that the attack was part of the attempt. Pujari was charged with sections 387 (extortion), 506 (intimidation) and 120 B (conspiracy) of the IPC.
