Kanam Rajendran opts for a role behind curtain

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran was the first choice for the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat to take on a formidable candidate like sitting MP Shashi Tharoor.

However, Kanam told the state executive and council that he would like to concentrate on the party’s electoral and organisational machinery during the crucial Lok Sabha polls. Subsequently the state leadership decided to field C. Divakaran who is also acceptable to the CPM leaders and Marxist cadres in the district.

Under the existing circumstances Divakaran is the best bet for LDF. Political observers say the electoral battle for Thiruvananthapruam constituency will go down to the wire if BJP decides to field Kumananam Rajashekharan.
