BSF man's cries from J&K go viral in Salem district

He says his mother was attacked by miscreants recently.

Salem: Barely three weeks after the Pulwama tragedy in Jammu and Kashmir that saw over 40 Border Security Force (BSF) killed in a terror attack, a BSF jawan from Tamil Nadu working in the border area has sent a poignant message about authorities rendering no help to his mother in distress back home in Salem district. His video clip has gone viral in the social media here on Monday.

Amid complaints post-Pulwama that BSF jawans, “risking their lives” for the country’s sake on the Indian borders do not get the institutional support their families in trouble back home deserve to get from the state authorities, this particular message from a BSF man hailing from Amaram village near Mecheri in Salem district, has caught the attention of a wider circle, thanks to ‘WhatsApp’.

The BSF man, Anbazhagan, has reportedly released a ‘selfie video’ which is now doing the rounds on ‘WhatsApp’ here.

He says in it that his widowed mother, after he lost his father two years ago, had been living alone back in his village and that he has no brother or sister who could look after the aged woman.

Identifying himself as working for the BSF in the border areas for the last 19 years, Anbazhagan further says that his mother was recently attacked by some miscreants in Amaram village and that the pathway leading to their house had been “blocked with stones”.

Anbazhagan wails in the video clip that access to his house in the village had been denied and that his mother had attempted suicide and admitted to the local government hospital. “I have reported this to the Mecheri police station and to the higher police authorities in Chennai; but no action has been taken by the police so far. I am serving the nation, please help my mother,” his poignant message added.

Even as this video clip from Anbazhagan went viral, it is now learnt that Mecheri police station has lodged an FIR based on his complaint. The local village administrative officer, K. Pannerselvam, spoken to by DC said that Anbazhagan’s complaint about his mother suffering a lot has been taken note of.

The VAO said he had subsequently enquired with the family and sent a report to the higher-ups. On that basis, Mecheri police have lodged an FIR, and “we have now cleared the pathway to Anbazhagan’s house in the village.” “There is no problem now,” the VAO added.
