Puducherry's week long celebration of Women's Day commences

Celebrations started with an exclusive rally with the theme women provide security stability and progress' led by Lt Governor Kiran Bedi.

Puducherry: Puducherry Raj Nivas, headed by the first woman IPS officer of India, is to celebrate Women’s Day with week-long programs. The celebrations started with an exclusive rally with the theme ‘women provide security stability and progress’ led by Lt Governor Kiran Bedi.

The 12-kilometre rally was flanked by Superintendent of police Apoorva Gupta and Rachna Singh. The woman police officers and beat officers, NSS,NCC cadres, followed by contingent of men were part of the bicycle rally that started from Raj Nivas.

Addressing the rally at beach road here, Ms Bedi said that the Women’s Day celebrations were launched in the presence of a number of young woman police officers, beat officers, NSS and NCC cadres.

“The week would be dedicated to pay gratitude to all the woman members supported by their male members who were contributing every bit to the progress of the society “, she said.

The Women’s Day celebrations would be followed by a number of programs to pay gratitude to the woman who are contributing in their own way for ‘Prosperous Puducherry’, an official release said.

Woman sanitation workers, students, self-help group members would be honored, encouraged motivated and mentored as part of the celebrations, which will culminate in Karaikal on March 10. The celebrations will be held in the presence of welfare minister M Kandasamy, and agriculture minister R Kamalakannan, the release added.
