Onchiyam struggles: CPM looking to regain lost ground

CPM has entrusted its new young area secretary T.P. Bineesh to lure back the RMPI cadres, especially the youth.

KOZHIKODE: The CPM is using all its might to recapture the red fortress of Onchiyam. The latest is the party identifying the damage of recent clashes with RMPI, which the latter took to the national capital staging a sit-in before the AKG Bhavan. the CPM headquarters. The unexpected support UDF showered on RMPI during the crisis hour is another concern. To tide over this, state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will come down to Onjiyam on March 10 to explain the party stand and with an aim to lure back the cadres from RMP.

CPM has entrusted its new young area secretary T.P. Bineesh to lure back the RMPI cadres, especially the youth. The former area secretary was infamous for the so-called feudal body language and was acting like a dictator. His style of functioning was one of the reasons attributed to the worsening of the rebellion triggered by T.P. Chandrasekharan and finally the formation of the RMP, way back in 2008. Mr Bineesh is from Onjiyam itself and the message through him is that ‘the party leadership is approachable, friendly and vibrant’.

“Hundreds of people had come back to CPM in these eight years. RMP has politically weakened and is leaning towards UDF,” claimed the 31-year-old leader. About the recent clashes, he reiterated that CPM workers were the victims of the unilateral attack by RMPI cadres. But RMPI state secretariat member K.K Rema outrightly dismisses the exodus propaganda. “No such thing has happened. It is the CPM's false propaganda since 2008,” she says. She believes her protest in New Delhi had exposed the CPM.

UDF leaders Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala and Shibu Baby John had visited the RMPI protest in Orkatteri and Rema, had visited K. Sudhakaran at his hunger strike venue in Kannur. “It’s never a convergence of political ideologies, but a union of like-minded parties against the political violence,” she clarifies.
