8 Maoist militia members surrender in Visakhapatnam

The DSP said that the surrendered has involved in various offences in GK Veedhi and surrounding areas in Vizag Agency.

Visakhapatnam: In another jolt to CPI (Maoist) in Vizag region, eight Maoist Militia Members of Galikonda area committee of the outfit, surrendered before Deputy Superintendent of Police (Chintapalle) Anil Pulapati at GK Veedhi in Vizag Agency on Saturday. The surrendered militia members were identified as P Sobhan, T Lakshmana Rao, K Kameswara Rao, V Srinu, V Lak-shmana Rao, Maleswara Rao Sana and G Balayya Maleswara Rao, all were native of Tada Konda and Sagula areas in GK Veddhi mandal.

The DSP said that the surrendered has involved in various offences in GK Veedhi and surrounding areas in Vizag Agency. The surrendered militia members have claimed that they have involved in anti-social activities due fearing of Maoists only. The police said that the red-rebels have been obstructing the development activities at the tribal areas in the name of their dinosaurage principles.

Sources in police said that in 2016, three SZCM (State Zonal Committee Member), 10 DCM (Divisional Committee Member) and five ACM (Area Committee Member) among 35 red-rebels were gunned down. The Malkangiri-Koraput-Visakhapatnam-Border (MKVB) division and the East division have suffered huge losses due to the strikes.

Apart from exchange of fires, in 2016 about 61 Maoists including five cadres, 42 militia members and 14 sympathisers were arrested. Thesurrenders include 10 Maoists cadres and 23 militia members. On the police side there was just one casualty and three civilians were killed by the Maoists in 2016.
