Bike taxis illegal, don't ride them: Karnataka Transport Department

The Transport Department also stated that it will launch a drive against the bike taxis from Saturday.

Bengaluru: In a rude shock to Uber and Ola cab hailing services, which have launched bike taxis in the city, the State Transport Department on Friday made it clear that it has not issued permission to both the services.

Mr Narendra Holkar, joint commissioner (enforcement), stated in a press note that the passengers will not get the insurance cover, if they meet with an accident while using the bike taxi. “The public are requested not to use these bike taxis as they do not have the licence and are illegal,” he said.

The Transport Department also stated that it will launch a drive against the bike taxis from Saturday. “Legal action has been initiated. At any time we can take action as these services are illegal. We cannot allow the app-based cab aggregators to play with the commuters’ safety," said a senior officer.
