VCK backs Mamata on CBI-police row

Condemning the CBI's action, the party has rendered support to Mamata in the fight against Centre.

Chennai: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who embarked on a sit-in protest opposing CBI, has received support from VCK.

A resolution passed at party's high power committee held in Chennai on Monday, condemned the Centre for posing threat to the West Bengal Government using CBI. The CBI has attempted to arrest Kolkata police commissioner violating laws. The party stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government attempted to use the CBI to silence the Opposition. Condemning the CBI's action, the party has rendered support to Mamata in the fight against Centre.

In another resolution, the VCK has condemned the arrest of Dalit scholar, intellectual and civil rights activist Anand Teltumbde by the Pune police on Saturday at the Mumbai airport. The party has demanded Maharastra police to withdraw the case foisted against
him.

The party has demanded the Governor to take decision to release, Perarivalan and six others convicted in Rajiv Gandhi Assassination case, immediately. The Governor has not taken decision even months after state government's recommendation.

The VCK has urged the Election Commission of India to use ballot paper again in the Lok Sabha poll as irregularities could be committed in electronic voting machines during the poll. The party noted that several parties were skeptical about the use of EVMs and many experts have proved that malpractices could be committed in EVMs even from a distance.

Constituting a 10-member committee to prepare election manifesto, VCK has directed the district secretaries to constitute booth committee and workers for the Lok Sabha poll and gave power to leader Thol Thirumavalavan to take decision on aligning with other parties.
