Nellore: Mother of ace playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, Sakunthalamma, 89, passed away due to age-related ailments at their residence in Nellore on Monday morning.
Her husband and noted Harikatha exponent Sri Panditharadhyula Sambamoorthy passed away in September, 1987.
Mr Balasubrahmanyam is on a tour to London and would return to perform the last rites on Tuesday, sources close to the singer said.
According to the family members, Sakuntha-lamma had been living in Nellore in the house belonging to the family. Though her two sons and three daughters invited her to stay with them, she remained in Nellore as it was her wish to live in the house built by her late husband.
A close friend of the singer, Tunga Siva Prabhat Reddy said that Mr Balasubrahmany was returning to Chennai from London. Last rites would be performed at 11 am on Tuesday
