Cancer Day: Hospitals, health department spread awareness

Bengaluru: On World Cancer Day on Monday, private hospitals and health department in the city took up initiatives to increase awareness about cancer. The Health and Family Welfare Department organised a special non-communicable diseases programme in collaboration with Kidwai Memorial Institute where health check-up camps for students are conducted at the district level for one week. Kidwai also released a special postal cover at the institute.

Manipal Hospitals launched a “Centre of Excellence for Immunotherapy, Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy and Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy” on its premises to educate people on early screening to detect cancer. The hospital also unveiled “dream catcher” to signify good health.

 

Around 100 people attended a public awareness programme about cancer and its prevention at Apollo Hospitals on Bannerghatta Road. As part of Cancer Awareness Month, Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru is organising a free genetic counselling session. The camp will be held on the hospital premises in Hebbal from 10 am to 5 pm. The counselling session will focus on assisting individuals on assessing their inherited cancer risk.

Biocon took to social media and pledged to continue its fight against the second leading cause of death worldwide, cancer, by increasing patient access to  #biologics.
