Apex court stays Telangana petition on teachers
Hyderabad: The Supreme Court has stayed a special leave petition filed by the Telangana state government for unifying the services of government and panchayat raj teachers on Monday.
Telangana Progressive Teachers Federation said the state government must not delay the matter and carry out the promotion of teachers based on seniority, which is pending since 2012.
The unifying of services for panchayat raj and government teachers was strongly opposed.
The High Court on August 28, 2018 had struck down the service rules stating that the president cannot unify the services of the two groups of teachers.
The Telangana state government filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court which has been stayed.
Teachers federation president B. Kondal Reddy said, “Teachers have not been promoted since 2012. The court order is clear that the government must not delay further and immediately formulate rules so that the promotions made.”
“The delay has led to good teachers leaving their jobs and opting for private sector.”
The federation is demanding promotions based on seniority.
Federation general secretary M. Sreenivasulu said, “The education system in the government sector has been suffering as teachers have been stuck in one post for eight to 10 years.”
The promotions are for assistant teachers, incharge co-ordinators, head masters, mandal education officers, deputy education officers among others.
The supervisory posts in the educational institutions and teacher training centres have not been filled which is affecting teacher training.
