Madras High Court appoints administrator to Chengalvaraya Naicker Trust
CHENNAI: The Madras high court has appointed the administrator general and official trustee of Tamil Nadu to administer temporarily the P.T. Lee Chengalvaraya Naicker Trust, which runs several educational institutions to provide education to poor students. This followed the resignation of Justice A. K. Rajan, a retired judge of the high court, from the post of trustee-cum-chairman.
Passing further interim orders on a miscellaneous petition filed by the trust, seeking appointment of a chairman in view of the resignation of Justice Rajan from the post, due to the humiliation meted out to him, a Division Bench comprising Justices S. Tamilvanan and G. Chockalingam directed the AG and OT to take over the administration and take immediate steps to pay the salary to the staff members/employees, including teachers, as per rules and attend the trust’s day-to-day administration.
He should also verify the assets and liabilities statements, including cash on hand and cash at bank, and also the income and expenditure account and submit the same to the Bench dealing with the matter, the court said. The Bench also directed the AG and OT to take appropriate steps well in advance giving 21 days notice to the public, to call for advertisements in two popular English and Tamil dailies, stating the required qualification for the appointment of fresh trustees, as per the guidelines of this court given pursuant to the scheme decree. He should place all the applications and the details of the applicants, seeking appointment of trustees before the Bench, the court said.
