Hyderabad: Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad HC on Thursday stayed the arrest of BJP MLC N. Ramachandra Rao who is an accused in the Rohith Vemula suicide case.
The police had registered a case against Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Mr Ramachandra Rao, ABVP leader N. Susheel Kumar and three others following a complaint by one D. Prashanth, a research scholar of UoH.
In his petition Mr Ramachandra Rao told the court that he came to know that Susheel Kumar was attacked by a group of students. He said he visited the UoH campus and met officials as a public representative and urged them to restore order.
Mr Ramachandra Rao contended that the case against him had no basis. While granting interim stay, the judge permitted the police to continue investigation.
Power firms allowed to recruit
A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice A.V. Sesha Sai on Thursday permitted the four TS power utilities to fill all the posts of assistant executive engineers except 22 posts as 22 hopefuls had approached the court challenging the recruitment rules.
The bench was hearing petitions by Mr Challa Narasimha Reddy and 21 others challenging the amendments made by TSGenco, TSTransco, southern and northern discoms to recruitment rules.
The petitioners told the court that as per the amended rules, local candidates were entitled to 70 per cent of the posts. They said that all these posts were now reserved for persons born in Telangana. This is not permissible as per provisions of the Constitution, they contended.
The court said that recruitments can go on and that selected candidates should be told that their appointment was subject to the final judgement.
Split list issue to be heard daily
A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice P. Naveen Rao decided to take up the hearing of cases pertaining to the division of employees of power utilities and the horticulture universities of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana daily from February 13.
Earlier, these cases were pending before the bench headed by Justice R. Subhash Reddy.
Dismay over women’s pension
Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy of the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday expressed dismay at the Andhra Pradesh government cancelling the old age pension of a woman declaring her as dead and that of another woman saying that she is not a widow.
Ms Ammanamma who appeared before court said that she her Aadhaar card, ration card and voter ID to prove that she is alive. Mettu Lakshimi also placed documents to prove that she is a widow.
After examining the documents the judge handed them over to the AP counsel and said that the attitude of the authorities is most inhuman.
The judge adjourned the case to February 16 as per the request of the AP counsel to grant time to present all records.
ED stand sought on Jagan Mohan case
Justice Raja Elango of the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday directed the Enforcement Directorate to spell out its stand by Monday on the petition by YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and his auditor Vijay Sai Reddy seeking a direction to the Special Court of the Enforcement Directorate to suspend its trial till the CBI Court decides the illegal investments case pending against them.
When Mr Reddy’s counsel pointed out that the special court of the ED should start its trial only in the event of the CBI court finding them guilty, the judge said that he had gone through the decisions of the courts in the 2G case and had not come across any such facility available to the accused in ED cases.
The case will come up for hearing on Monday.
