GHMC poll violence: Cops twist the tale, book Congress leaders
Hyderabad: In a new development to the Old City violence cases on GHMC polling day, police on Thursday registered three cases against TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy, senior Congress leader Shabbir Ali, MLA Rammohan Reddy and Puranapul Congress candidate Md Ghouse on charges of criminal intimidation and trespassing.
Three complaints were registered against them at Mir Chowk police station.
Police also arrested four persons involved in the attack on the Congress leaders during elections on Tuesday. Four others who were involved in the attack on the Deputy CM’s son Azam Ali, were also arrested. However, all eight were later released on bail.
Police also plans to question Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who is presently in UP for election campaigning.
Meanwhile, a Congress leader rubbished the charges on them and alleged that the police was acting on the directions of CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Based on a complaint from Kashaf and Abed, who were arrested on Thursday, and a media person, three cases were registered against the Congress leaders. The three in their complaint at Mir Chowk police station alleged that while they were waiting at the police station on Wednesday, the Congress leader allegedly attacked them and manhandled them.
Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the charges were false and were made for political gains.
“Unless there are clear instructions from the CM, police would not go to the extent of registering cases against the leader of the Opposition,” he added.
