4 more Omicron cases reported in AP

Out of four infected persons, three were male from Prakasam district and one was a female from Guntur

Vijayawada: AP’s Coronavirus new variant Omicron’s tally rises to 28 with the addition of four more new cases on Wednesday.

The state health authorities said here on Wednesday that out of four infected persons, three were male from Prakasam district while the one was a female from Guntur who was infected with the Omicron through contact to an international traveller.

A man aged 60 years from Prakasam district arrived on December 27 from the USA and his genome sequencing test found that he tested Omicron positive. A seven-year-old boy hailing from Prakasam district arrived on December 18 from the UK and a man aged 39 years hailing from Prakasam arrived on December 18 from the UK and tested Omicron positive. A 14-year-old girl hailing from Guntur district tested Omicron positive when she came into contact with an infected international traveller.

The authorities said that all the contacts of infected international travellers were traced, tested and their Covid-19 positive samples were sent for genome sequencing.

Meanwhile, the state health authorities reiterated their advice to the people to maintain Covid appropriate behaviour by wearing mask, maintaining social distancing and washing hands regularly and others and also to take up vaccination without fail.
