Hyderabad: The She Teams received the most complaints regarding harassment over the phone, teasing and misbehaving. This was followed by complaints of lewd comments and stalking.
“In the last four years, around 10,644 persons were counselled and monitored by the She Teams, and 4,008 people were warned and let off with instructions not to repeat such offences in future. Awareness campaigns were organised at schools, colleges, hostels and wherever there is a possibility of harassment of women, with the goal to achieve a safe and secure Telangana for women,” said the officer.
More than 7,354 such awareness programmes were conducted in which 40,12,186 people were educated about crimes against women. “The result is that men, women and children came to know about the concept of She Teams and are now aware of how to approach the police in case of any issues,” she said.
Most of the complaints received by the She Teams are through WhatsApp because victims need not visit a police station. The She Teams also received 351 emails, 100 complaints through HawkEye application and 26 through Facebook. Very few took to Twitter.
An analysis of the nature of complaints shows that the most number of complaints (38%) were for teasing and misbehaving in public and private spaces, followed by lewd or suggestive phone calls and messages (31%). Complaints of lewd comments were 13 %, stalking complaints, 10.5 % and 1.5 % cent complained about inappropriate touching.
