Hyderabad: The Telangana Civil Supplies Department has introduced IRIS policy for supply of basic commodities to the PDS beneficiaries in the New Year. This retina-based identification system will help people, especially the elderly, to avail monthly ration without difficulty.

So far, the system has been implemented in 5,186 shops in 16 districts and 15 lakh people availed rations using this in the past four days. In its phase one, the IRIS system will be implemented in all 17,200 ration shops across the state.

On Friday, Commissioner for Civil Supplies Department Akun Sabharwal inspected IRIS performance at Sircilla and Siddipet districts Fair Price (FP) shops. He said that this system will be introduced in the FP shops state wide and make sure that no malpractice takes place.
