Minister Jaleel bats for similar syllabuses in universities
Thiruvananthapuram: Higher education minister K.T. Jaleel has said that steps should be taken to make syllabuses of the universities of the state similar. The minister was speaking at the meeting of vice chancellors held here on Friday.
If the syllabuses of various subjects were 75 percent similar, the present issue of equivalency between degrees of various universities will end, said Mr Jaleel. He said that it was high time that syllabuses of post graduate courses of teaching departments of universities are revised.
As part of making syllabuses of various universities similar, higher education council should conduct workshops in the months of April and May, said Mr Jaleel.
The universities should develop a perspective plan for the next 25 years and come up with projects for research and academic development accordingly, said Mr Jaleel.
A permanent set up should be put in place to evaluate the performances of autonomous colleges. Government will convene a meeting of autonomy appr-oval committee on January 16 for the purpose, said Mr Jaleel.
All the process from receiving application to distribution of certificates should be made online, said the minister.
Steps should be taken to ensure that affiliated colleges do not charge exorbitant fee, said the minister. Adalats should be conducted to settle the issues of students and teachers, said Mr Jaleel.
