KPTCL cable work hits traffic in Koramangala
Bengaluru: Motorists battling the disruption caused by flyover construction on the Inner Ring Road near Sony Signal in Koramangala now have to deal with a new nightmare.
Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) has dug up the 80 Feet Road near the BMTC Complex to lay 220/66KV underground cables.
The worst hit are those commuting on 80 feet road between Sony Junction to Income Tax office and they will have to deal with bumper-to-bumper traffic at least a week, if the KPTCL completes the work on time.
Commuters say though these development works benefit people in the long run, the civic authorities need to ensure they are executed in a planned manner and get over on time, to minimise the inconvenience. “However, civic agencies take up works in an ad-hoc manner and commuters get stranded for hours wasting their valuable time and fuel,” said Janardhan K., a techie. The work should be taken up during weekends and wrapped up within three days, he added.
He said that before starting the work the KPTCL in coordination with the traffic police should have identified alternate routes, as 80 Feet Road is an arterial road and has many government offices, including the BMTC commercial complex from where hundreds of bus services originate and terminate.
A senior officer from KPTCL said, “The roads have been dug up to provide connection to Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) station at Koramangala. This area has a huge demand for power and as a result the KPTCL laid 220/66 KV network. Now, through the 66 KV network, power supply will be distributed to different locations in Koramangala. It will help reduce power cuts and enables officials to switch the stations to provide continuous power supply,” the officer explained.
Regretting the inconvenience caused to the public, he assured that the work would be completed in six or seven days.
