IMA protests NMC bill, cites loopholes

IMA state president Dr Prathap Reddy said the NMC Bill would take health, a state subject, into the Centre's ambit.

Hyderabad: The Indian Medical Association protested three new legislations the National Medical Commission Bill, amendment Bills to the consumer protection Act and Medical Council of India Act — by wearing black badges.

IMA state president Dr Prathap Reddy said the NMC Bill would take health, a state subject, into the Centre’s ambit. Changing the MCI status would make medical education expensive.

He said the Bill amending the consumer protection Act had increased the compensation that district and state fora.

IMA spokesperson Dr V. Ravi Shankar said the Bills had many loopholes.
