Dog sniffs out deer meat in forest, helps nab two

The forest officials acting on a tip-off rushed to the village and searched for the meat of spotted deer.

Hyderabad: The dog squad which was recently added to the Telangana state forest department, have smelled their way to their first success by finding meat of spotted deer near Kawal tiger reserve that was hidden in a house in Chintaguda village under Jannaram mandal of Mancherial district on Thursday evening.

The forest officials acting on a tip-off rushed to the village and searched for the meat of spotted deer.

As, no one in the village came forward and revealed where the meat was hidden, officials took the help of the dog squad. The dog directly moved into a house, and helped the forest officials book A. Ellaiah and K. Rajam. The two have been sent to 14 day remand.

The Telangana forest department had deployed two sniffer dogs that have been trained by the Border Security Force in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.

The Telangana forest officials have one dog each in Kawal tiger reserve and Amrabad tiger reserve, as these two are crucial due to the presence of tigers.

Speaking to the media, FDO, Jannaram K. Ravinder siad, “The dogs are doing amazing job. When we took it into the village, it has directly taken us to the house, where the meet was hidden.”
