Chennai: I-T raids continue on restaurants for 2nd day

The search began at 8 am on Thursday at the 32 buildings of restaurants and corporate offices in the city.

Chennai: The officials of the income tax department are continuing raids for the second day at popular restaurants in the city.

According to sources, eight teams of Chennai IT investigation wing were formed to conduct searches at four popular restaurant chains such as Anjappar, Hot bread, Saravana Bhavan and Grand Sweets and Snacks.

The search began at 8 am on Thursday at the 32 buildings of restaurants and corporate offices in the city. After the investigators secured evidence of alleged tax evasion by the restaurants led to the raids and the searches are continuing for the second day on Friday.

According to I-T sources, ' the raids are being conducted after they found that they were not disclosing income. In 2007, two of these hotels did not declare the income correctly and I-T team had to do an investigation on them. now they are repeating the same thing'. Meanwhile, on the second day, two teams went to Tanjavur and Kancheepuram and rest of the teams are continuing the raids in the city.
