Tax evasion: Crime Branch to book prime car dealers
Thiruvananthapuram: The Crime Branch has decided to register cases against all premium car dealers in the state in connection with Puducherry registrations, aimed at dodging tax.
A case was registered against Muthoot Motors, which deals in Jaguar, Land Rover and Range Rover, last week in Kochi.
Owners of 63 high-end vehicles sold by Muthoot Motors in the state but registered in Puducherry have been arraigned in the case, said Crime Branch sources.
“All premium car dealers in the state were found to have resorted to registering cars in Puducherry using fake documents. Hence, we have decided to register cases against all such dealers and car owners,” Crime Branch sources said.
The Crime Branch had registered five cases in connection registration of vehicles in Puducherry. While three cases were registered against Suresh Gopi, MP, and actors Fahad Fazil and Amala Paul, two other cases were registered against officials and agents of a high-end car dealer in Kochi.
The Crime Branch suspects the veracity of claims of Suresh Gopi, who had submitted copies of a rent agreement of 2014 of a house in Puducherry while one of his luxury cars was registered in Puducherry in 2010, sources pointed out.
