Kochi: HC doubts CBI probe into TP Chandrasekharan murder case

The court on Thursday observed that a probe was possible in case of the continuation of investigation after unearthing fresh accused in the case.

Kochi: The High Court has expressed doubts about the possibility of holding a CBI probe into the conspiracy behind the murder of RMP leader T.P. Chandrasekharan as a probe was already completed and punishment awarded to the culprits.

The court on Thursday observed that a probe was possible in case of the continuation of investigation after unearthing fresh accused in the case. A number of persons have already undergone trial and many of them were convicted too, the court said while hearing a petition by K.K. Rema, wife of the late RMP leader, demanding a CBI probe into the larger conspiracy behind the murder. The court said the allegations of conspiracy had also been considered at that time. The same persons cannot be charged with a fresh case of conspiracy, it said.

The case was posted to next week for further hearing. At present three FIRs exist regarding the case. A legal scrutiny of all these FIRs is likely before any decision can be taken on a CBI probe.

Chandrasekharan, a firebrand leader of the CPM at the Onchiyam area in Kozhikode district, had fallen out with the leadership and floated the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) which led to his killing by a hired gang of assassins on May 4, 2012, allegedly at the behest of the CPM leadership.
