Chennai Civic body school students get Neet coaching

In a press release, the Chennai corporation said 120 students have been selected for the Spark programme.

CHENNAI: With Neet for medical courses made mandatory amid Tamil Nadu’s staunch opposition, the Greater Chennai corporation, in a move to help its students crack the ‘difficult’ entrance exam has started Neet coaching classes for ‘selected’ students.

Chennai corporation commissioner D. Karthikeyan inaugurated the Spark Integration Programme on Thursday. Under the programme, as many as 80 Chennai corporation school students would be given Neet coaching by civic body education department.

In a press release, the Chennai corporation said 120 students have been selected for the Spark programme. Of these, 80 students will be given Neet coaching and 40 students will be given JEE coaching, the press release added.

“FIITJEE and Master Academy will conduct coaching classes. The classes will be held every day including weekends,” Karthikeyan said.

Boys and girls short-listed for the coaching would stay at Chennai corporation residential schools on Subbarayan street Chennai boys higher secondary school and Saidapet Chennai girls higher secondary school, a senior Chennai corporation official said.

“The students have been selected after an exclusive selection process. The selected students will be shifted to the residential schools irrespective of their present school,” the official added.

Karthikeyan also inaugurated refurbished 60-bedded dormitories each on Subbarayan Street Chennai boys higher secondary school and Saidapet Chennai Higher secondary school, where the coaching classes set to be conducted.
