Bengaluru: 14,000 cases booked against auto, cab drivers
BENGALURU: Bengaluru traffic police conducted a special drive on Thursday to book auto and cab drivers, who refused to go on hire, demanded excess fares and other offences.
Policemen of East and North traffic divisions moved around in plainclothes and penalized erring auto and cab drivers. A total number of 14,481 cases were booked during the drive.
East traffic division police booked 13,578 cases against auto and cab drivers for harassing passengers by charging extra and for other violations such as not wearing uniforms, using mobile phones while driving and not having driving licence.
Around 2,060 auto drivers and 1,078 cab drivers were booked for various offences, including 1,287 cases for not wearing uniform and 306 cases for refusing to ply their vehicles.
The North division has booked 903 visible offences cases within the span of two hours on Thursday morning during the special drive from 6:30 am to 8:30 am.
