Tenkasi: An auto driver along with his wife committed suicide near here after poisoning his two children, but one of their children miraculously survived the ordeal and is undergoing treatment.
Kandasamy (37), an auto driver of Kattalaikudiyiruppu village near Puliyarai in Tenkasi district, was found dead in his house along with his wife Esakkiammal alias Indhumathi (30) and elder son Chinmuthiran (5).
Kandasamy's younger son, a one-and-half-year old baby, lying along with them however, was found alive and hence rushed to the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Preliminary investigation by the Puliyarai police revealed that Kandasamy and his wife resorted to this extreme step of committing suicide by consuming poison due to debt problem. But before ending their lives, the couple forced their children consume poison and allegedly strangulated them.
The younger child, however escaped death, according to the police, who added that the auto driver's wife had allegedly taken multiple loans from a private micro finance company and from the self-help group in which she was a member.
In the inner wall of their house, it was found written, presumably by the couple, that they resorted to commit suicide due to poverty and debt and that nobody else is responsible for their death. The police are examining the wall writing.
