Hyderabad: One person died and nine others including eight from the same family survived injuries when the SUV they were travelling met with a road accident at Chaitanyapuri during early hours on Tuesday. The family had gone on a pilgrimage and were returning home at Secunderabad, said the police.
A family of nine persons hailing from Lallaguda in Tukaram Gate area of Secunder-abad had been to Vijayawada for a pilgrimage. The family started from Vijaya-wada on Monday night. At around 4.30 am, when the SUV reached Chaitanyapuri, the driver lost control and rammed it into a median near Nagole bridge.
Chaitanyapuri inspector S. Janaki Reddy said that Daram Naveen, 30, who was in the seat beside the driver, suffered a severe head injury and died on the spot. Nine others – driver Kurmaiah, and Naveen’s family members Nagamani, Srinivas, Jayamma, Srilatha, Srinivas, Sravani, Mananya and Aditri — received mild injuries. The injured persons were admitted to a nearby private hospital for treatment and are stated to be out of danger.
The inspector said that the car was travelling at high speed due to which the driver lost control.
The body of the Naveen was shifted to Osmania General Hospital mortuary for the post-mortem examination and a case was registered against the driver for the investigation.
In another accident at Nandigama village in Shamshabad, a long-distance bus swerved and fell on its side on National Highway-44. A driver and passenger suffered injuries in the incident on Monday night.
Shamshabad inspector R. Venkatesh said that the bus belonging to Orange Travels was heading to Bengaluru from Hyderabad. At about 11 pm, the driver of the bus lost control which fell to its right side. All other passengers and crew on the bus escaped unhurt. A case has been registered for the investigation, he said.
