Hyderabad: In 2 years, only 30 pc of skyway work done

Though the project started in 2015, the corporation, after facing land acquisition troubles, began construction only in 2017.

Hyderabad: Skyway construction work at the Bahadurpura and Owaisi junctions is proceeding extremely slowly. In a span of two years, the civic body has not acquired land, and only 30 per cent of the construction work has been completed.

Under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had decided to construct two flyovers at the Owaisi junction and Bahadurpura junction. The flyover at Owaisi junction was to cost Rs 63 crore and the one at Bahadurpura Rs 69 crore.

Though the project started in 2015, the corporation, after facing land acquisition troubles, began construction only in 2017 at both junctions. A severe fund crunch left the projects in the lurch for two years. At Owaisi junction, out of 36 piers, the corporation has managed to construct only 14. It has not acquired a single property till date. Out of 13 properties to be acquired, land acquisition was filed for seven and consent taken from six property owners.

At Bahadurpura junction, the civic body has constructed four pier substructures out of a total of 13 needed. The construction of the remaining pillars was put on hold due to the delay in utility-shifting from the line departments.

The corporation has acquired two properties, that too government properties. The remaining 33 properties are under land acquisition process and for 10, the corporation has got consent. The corporation had been negotiating with representatives of two temple authorities.
