Father-son injured in house collapse near Ambasamudram
Tirunelveli: Two tile-roofed houses at Ambasamudram collapsed injuring two persons in the wake of incessant rains in Tirunelveli district.
The roof of the house reportedly caved in the wee hours of Tuesday at Illathar North street, injured Lakshmanan and his son. Lakshmanan's wife and daughter, who were also sleeping in the same house, however miraculously escaped uninjured.
Another house in the same area too collapsed the same day. However no one was injured as the house owner Kandasamy along with his family was out of station, police said.
The continuous rains resulted in flash flood in the river Thamirabarani that was in spate with around 25,000 cusecs of water flowing into the river.
Lack of storage facility in the southern districts too resulted in the wasteful draining of around 20,000 cusecs in to the sea at Punnakayal in Thoothukudi district, complained the farmers.
The district registered an average rainfall of 15.60 mm till Tuesday morning, with Ambasamudram region experiencing the highest level of 49-mm and Manimutharu 34.2 mm.
Tenkasi district registered an average rainfall of 14.7-mm till Tuesday morning. As all the falls were in spate on Tuesday in Courtallam, tourists were not allowed to take bath.
