Chennai: Unhappy over marriage, a 20-year-old girl immolated self at her house in Chromepet. She died after suffering 82 per cent burns. A case has been registered.
According to sources, S.Trisha, a resident of Chromepet, was forced into a marriage by her parents. She was married to Nithyanandam(28), in the last week of October who works in a private company and earns a meagre salary. Trisha remained unhappy in the marriage and was not satisfied with the salary that her husband was earning, After 20 days of marriage Trisha returned to her parent’s house citing her unwillingness to continue in the matrimonial bond.
Trisha’s parents tried convincing her to stay with her husband and failed every time. However, on Monday Trisha’s father, Senthil Kumar instructed her to be ready to go to her husband’s house. He had also told her that he would take Trisha in the afternoon and would speak with her husband and in-laws.
An upset Trisha collected a bottle full of petrol from her father’s motorbike and self-immolated on Monday evening. Hearing her screams her mother covered her with a bedsheet but Trisha had suffered 82 per cent burns by then.
She was taken immediately to the Government hospital where the body was sent for postmortem. A case was registered with Chromepet police and further investigations are going on.
