Bengaluru: Two more stents placed in seer's bile duct, discharged

He has undergone the procedure six times in the past and has withstood them well.

Bengaluru: The 111-year-old Dr Shivakumara Swamiji, the chief pontiff of Tumakuru Siddaganga Mutt, was discharged on Monday after an endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography (ERCP) procedure with two more stents placed in the common bile duct at BGS Gleneagles Hospital.

“He was brought to the hospital with complaints of mild fever on December 1 after which he was admitted for blood investigation, ultrasound and CT scan of the abdomen,” said Dr Ravindra B.S., Chief Medical Gastroenterologist of the hospital.

After a complete evaluation, a team of hospital doctors, headed by Dr Ravindra, performed ERCP as the seer’s CRP (infection marker) was high on December 2. Since his heartbeat was inconsistent, doctors kept him under observation overnight.

Dr Kuttappa, Chief of Anaesthesia, and Chief Medical Gastroenterologist, along with Swamiji’s personal doctors were present during the procedure. With these two stents, the total number of stents in the seer’s body is now 11.

He has undergone the procedure six times in the past and has withstood them well. “Swamiji will continue to be on medication for the next few days and will be closely monitored by his personal doctors,” Dr Ravindra said.
