A police spokesman said on Monday that the accused were part of two modules of Jaish-e-Muhammad.

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested ten persons who were allegedly helping militants in carrying out violent acts in the southern parts of the Kashmir Valley.

A police spokesman said on Monday that the accused were part of two modules of Jaish-e-Muhammad. He said that a special team had been constituted by the police following surge in militant attacks in Tral area of southern Kashmir. It was on the basis of material evidence collected by the team that four persons identified as Younis Nabi Naik, Fayaz Ahmad Wani, Riyaz Ahmad Ganaie and Bilal Ahmad Rather were taken into custody for questioning, the spokesman claimed.

“The investigations revealed their complicity in the attacks carried out in Tral area,” the spokesman said.

He also said that another module was busted in Khrew area of Pulwama following the arrest of six associates of militants belonging to the Jaish.

Those arrested are Javaid Ahmad Parray, Yasir Bashir Wani, Tahir Yousuf Lone, Rafiq Ahmad Bhat, Javaid Ahmad Khanday and Imran Nazir Najar. “Huge quantity of incriminating materials including gelatin sticks, detonators, materials for making IEDs and grenades was recovered from this module,” the spokesman claimed.

The police also claimed that they have detained eight other militant ‘associates’ who were planning to snatch weapons from police personnel in various parts of Kashmir valley.

They said that the accused were picked up from Baramulla and Tan-gmarg areas of Baram-ulla district and Srinagar. “Based on a credible input that a criminal conspiracy has been hatched by some associates of militants to snatch weapons from on duty police personnel, Baramulla police has detained eight militant accomplices from Baramulla, Tangmarg and Srinagar areas,” the police spokesman said.

The police further said that they separately rescued five missing schoolboys who had “threatened their parents with joining militant ranks.”
