Kochi: Kerala Catholic Bishops Council (KCBC) Commission for Education chairman and Thrissur Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath has deplored the bid of the state government to enact a law against the High Court order banning campus politics.
In a statement on Sunday Mar Thazhath said that this is an attempt at challenging the majority of the students who want a peaceful atmosphere on the campuses to pursue studies. He also said that the experience so far in the state showed that the campus politics has been opportunistic and violent conducted for the benefit of a minority who destroy the chances of others to study.
Mar Andrews Thazhath also pointed out that the leaders who insisted on campus politics had secured the future of their children by ensuring their study in the higher educational institutions outside the state and the country. “These leaders engage in blatant cheating of the student community by enforcing them to reel under campus politics as they have no other option but to study in colleges here,” he added.
Referring to Kodiyeri’s address in Kochi the other day against the High Court order, Mar Thazhath said that he has challenged the judiciary which issued the order after properly studying all aspects of the issue. “The violent incidents happened on the college campuses time and again show that the campuses are yet not mature enough to allow politics,” he said. He said that matured leaders should attempt to teach youngsters genuine politics outside the campuses.
